"I will live with the effects of this disease and the surgeries for the rest of my life and it is not easy but the fact that there is "the rest of my life" makes it all worth it."

By Eileen Carson

My story is so long so I will try to keep this brief :) It all started 13 & 1/2 yrs ago when I was 9 months pregnant and is still on-going as I live with the effects of having major surgeries, including my pancreas being removed and having to live as a Type 1 diabetic....but I am still here getting back up every day! I don't consider myself a hero. My heroes are my husband and my boys who keep me going everyday and are my inspiration to do all I can to take care of myself. I will live with the effects of this disease and the surgeries for the rest of my life and it is not easy but the fact that there is "the rest of my life" makes it all worth it. We never know what life will bring and we have a choice. I choose to honor those that weren't as blessed as I was to have a tumor found so early. I honor that young mom the same age as me, with a young son the same age as mine at the time, who came to the same doctor as me, and she didn't make it. We had the exact same tumor but hers was had progressed so far that she didn't survive. My surgeon once hugged me and said "you are my miracle, I don't get to save people." I thank God I was chosen to be considered a miracle and I pray that the way I live my life honors that.

Pancreatic cancer is the ONLY major cancer with a five-year survival rate still in the single digits at just 6%.  With your help, we can change this deadly statistic.
