Hero Story: My Brother
By Irene Brown
I have not volunteered yet but plan to in the very near future. Illness of my own has prevented me but I am ok and ready now and I will be doing it in the name of my brother Aaron who was diagnosed on August 17, 2009 with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and lost the fight October 24, 2009. He went so fast and I will spend the rest of my life during whatever I can to end this. So little has been done toward finding a cure and being able to diagnose this deadly disease before it reaches stage four. My brother was told he had a skin condition and was being treated for that and then his eyes turned yellow and we took him to another hospital who sent us to a University 100 miles away who gave us the horrible news stage four pancreatic cancer and six months to live. He underwent the whipple procedure and on October 24, 2009 lost the battle and took a part of me with him. More research has got to be done and I know my brother would be proud of me for joining the fight to beat this deadly disease.
